Relay For Life and The American Cancer Society
The Relay For Life in Howard County will take place on June 15 & 16, 2012 at the Howard County Fairgrounds. With 100+ teams, over 3,500 participants, 200+ sponsors and most of all, 500+ cancer survivors from Howard County and surrounding areas in attendance, this year's goal is to be the top Relay in Indiana again, with a goal of $235,000.
Relay is the largest non-profit fund raiser nationwide. The money raised from Relay goes to support numerous programs and services of the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem, by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
The ACS uses the money it raises from Relay to go toward programs such as Reach to Recovery (a one-on-one breast cancer support program) Road to Recovery (a transportation service provided for patients by volunteer drivers) Look Good Feel Better (a program designed for women to learn to cope with the changes of cancer), our 1-800-ACS-2345 # that is available 24 hours a day and is staffed by trained specialists, Cancer Survivors Network (an online community created by survivors), Summer Camps for children, pamphlets and brochures on every type of cancer and RESEARCH that is unparalleled.
